On a live construction site, installation speed matters because roofing progress affects weather protection, follow-on trades and project preliminaries. A useful comparison must separate product design from the conditions and scope of the individual project.
What the Current Product Evidence Says
SolarTyle's current brochure describes an integrated module that installs like a roof tile without extra flashings or battening around the solar field. That approach is intended to keep the photovoltaic area within a familiar roofing sequence rather than creating a separate raised array.
The current data sheet records the module format and installed dimensions, while the MCS product certificate confirms the certified product range. These documents support product identity and configuration; they do not provide a timed, like-for-like market comparison. We therefore do not use them as proof of a fixed installation rate.
Why Roof Interfaces Affect the Programme
Every additional interface has to be designed, supplied, set out and installed correctly. SolarTyle's integrated format is intended to reduce separate boundary components and keep the solar modules aligned with the surrounding roof covering. The practical benefit is a more coordinated sequence, particularly when the roof and solar layout are resolved before procurement.
For new-build and multi-plot work, repeatable setting out, material scheduling and a consistent trained team can improve delivery. For one-off or complex roofs, valleys, hips, dormers, roof windows, shading constraints and electrical routes can add time even when the solar module itself is straightforward to place.
What Determines Installation Time?
- Roof geometry and solar layout: simple uninterrupted slopes differ from roofs with hips, valleys, dormers and multiple orientations.
- Roof readiness: deck, underlay, battens, setting-out information and tolerances need to be correct before module installation.
- Access and logistics: scaffolding, loading areas, lifting arrangements, storage and the movement of materials all affect productive time.
- Weather and safe working: rain, ice, frost, strong winds and slippery conditions can stop roof work regardless of the product being installed.
- Crew competency: the MCS installation standard requires competent personnel; familiarity with the system and approved method remains important.
- Electrical scope: cabling, inverter work, testing, commissioning and handover should not be hidden inside or excluded from a comparison without being stated.
- Project boundaries: stripping, non-solar tiles, flashings away from the solar field, waste, inspection and remedial work may sit inside or outside the quoted programme.
How to Compare Installation Claims Fairly
Before relying on a speed claim, ask what was timed. A useful record should state the roof area, photovoltaic capacity, number and experience of operatives, access arrangement, weather, roof complexity and whether electrical commissioning was included.
It should also define the start and finish points. Timing module placement alone is not equivalent to timing the complete roof package, and neither is equivalent to the full customer programme from survey through commissioning.
SolarTyle will publish a numeric benchmark only when it can be tied to a dated project record and a repeatable measurement method. Until then, project teams should request a programme based on their drawings, site conditions and procurement scope.
